On Wednesday, April 5th, nearly 60 GEAR UP and medical profession students were invited to a first-ever “Medical Luncheon” at East Tech’s banquet hall.

The students met three successful and prominent physicians in a luncheon atmosphere, which created a  casual setting. While eating, the students were able to listen to the physician’s personal stories about what made them successful and gave advice to young students aspiring to be great physicians.

The event was arranged by Sonza Davis, GEAR UP Coordinator for East Tech and Southeast Tech. Ms. Davis was excited about this event because it was a great opportunity for the students and physicians to get to know one another in a relaxed atmosphere.  This allowed East Tech’s aspiring physicians to ask questions and receive feedback from some of the top professional’s in the medical field.

The three guest physicians were Dr. Rooman Ahad, a pediatric neurologist at Desert Springs and Sunrise Hospital; Dr. Kevin Xie, a neurologist at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center; and Dr. Linda Johnson, Medical Director of Internal Medicine at Southwest Medical Associates.

All three physicians shared a touching story, elaborating on how they got to where they are today.

Dr. Ahad studied autism and neurobehavioral disorders in Baltimore, MD before moving to Henderson, NV.

Dr. Xie studied neurology in China before completing his residency in the United States.  He helps treat adult patients that have conditions such as: epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, brain disorders, aneurysms, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, chronic pain, insomnia, cranial trauma, and other neurological conditions.

Dr. Johnson’s passion for the medical field and helping others stems from her early childhood.  She currently resides in Las vegas, NV and has continuously worked with the community to improve local clinics. .

The guests were impressed with East Tech’s students and expressed an interest in returning to continue to support our school’s Medical Professions Program.

Thank you Ms. Davis for helping to coordinate an educational, informational, and successful event!
